I thought I would share my latest new painting and how I started. This new painting is of two wolves that I started painting "live". The canvas I am using is 8 inches x 16 inches and I am using acrylic paint, my favorite paint to use. It is such a privilege studying this beautiful black wolf and her sister (the white wolf in the painting is not seen in this photo below, but we are all together inside their enclosure), as they inspire this new painting. I will continue and finish this painting in my studio. Often one might think that a smaller painting is easier and takes less time to complete. Not true. Each painting has its own story that I am trying to convey. It also has its own unique "feel" and emotion and has no time limit. When it "feels" right, then I am done.

It is such a privilege to encounter such grace, beauty and hope, which inspires my paintings. "It is the innate intelligence, emotion & sensitivity in all animals that moves me. I have personally met all the animals in my paintings. This is the only way I can do a painting. I love to feel their essence first hand,

This was the start. I work on painting the basic structure and form using a mixture of Payne Grey (Navy Blue) and Raw Umber (Dark Brown) mixed together as well as using these colours separate. Also Titanium White.

In this wildlife art painting I wanted a feel of ghostliness. As you get closer to the Wolves faces, I also wanted to portray a story of significance. Their faces are not fierce. Rather they have a sense of determination, focus and hope within them.

These Grey Wolves, which are sisters, are on a journey, moving forward past adversity, steadfast and unstoppable, as they fulfill their life’s purpose.
